Happy Gilmore

Plot

Happy Gilmore is a comedy film that tells the story of Happy Gilmore, a former professional hockey player who turns to golf in an attempt to save his grandmother's home from foreclosure. Happy's unorthodox approach to golf, which includes using his hockey skills and incorporating elements of other sports into his game, earns him both admiration and scorn from fellow golfers. Despite his rough start on the course, Happy eventually becomes a skilled golfer and begins to compete in professional tournaments. His main rival is Shooter McGavin, a snobbish and arrogant golfer who looks down on Happy's unconventional style. As Happy's skills improve, he becomes determined to win a major PGA tournament, not just for himself but also to prove to his grandmother that he can succeed at something. However, Happy's methods often backfire, causing chaos and destruction on the golf course and earning him the ire of Shooter and other golfers. Throughout the film, Happy's character evolves as he learns to balance his rough-around-the-edges personality with a growing sense of professionalism and respect for the game of golf. Despite the many obstacles he faces, including Shooter's constant attempts to psych him out, Happy perseveres and ultimately finds success in an unexpected way. The film features Adam Sandler in the title role, along with Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin and Julie Bowen as Virginia Venitucci, a love interest for Happy. The movie is known for its humor, memorable characters, and over-the-top golfing antics, making it a beloved comedy classic among fans of the sport and beyond.
